Although a lot of businesses in an array of different sectors want to use blockchain, many don’t exactly know what it is, how it can affect their industry and how to implement it within their organization.
My name is Jesse van Doren and alongside my team at Brize, we understand that in order to implement blockchain technology in a good way, businesses, governments and organizations have to work together. I work together with organizations from all kind of sizes to help them to understand how to utilize the blockchain tech within all areas of an organization. I do this through personalized blockchain sessions, structured blockchain workshops and blockchain hackathons.
A lot of companies want to start using blockchain because they fear they will miss out on the ‘next big advancement in tech’ and fall behind to their competitors. So far, blockchain has been associated with the financial sector and Bitcoin. More and more people, however, are looking at blockchain as a medium for innovation and see opportunities outside the financial sector.
I believe that there are many benefits to using Blockchain. Benefits include the following:
- Mathematical and algorithmic rules make all data saving irreversible
- Data history cannot be deleted in any way
- Changing the components of the data is impossible, ensuring that the data transferred is authentic and reliable
- Blockchain is neither owned or managed by a company, nor based on a specific technology. This allows the system to be independent and neutral, making it safe to use.
Blockchain Examples
Supply chain communication:
A lot of the products that we buy are not made by a single business entity. They are the combination of a lot of different companies coming together. However, if one of these entities fails to reach the standards that they promised, value of the overall product is compromised. This also means that the main business that is selling the product will receive a lot of the backlash because people never think about the middlemen, supplier and manufacturers.
Paying employees:
Some businesses have employees working internationally. Bitwage is a bitcoin based payment service that allows employers to transfer money internationally in a faster and cheaper way than ever before.
Electronic Voting:
On a corporate level, stakeholders can make board level decisions in a safe and anonymous way improving the secret ballot method. Blockchain could be even used on national level during elections and referendums, enhancing voting that is currently done through paper ballot.
